Since then, we've tried to get a few projects off the ground, but we couldn't quite get all the pieces to come together. ![]() Aaron and I worked together on a couple projects for MS, but neither ended up getting released. Everything was about the Xbox, and they didn't feel like the adventure genre was a good fit. What have some of the struggles been trying to make it happen? Chris Jones: The biggest issue goes back to when Microsoft bought Access. IGN: I know you guys have wanted to collaborate again for a while, and it's been a long time. We couldn't have made Three Cards to Midnight without them. #TEX MURPHY UNDER A KILLING MOON PURCHASE SOFTWARE#We have a lot of talented folks here at TruGolf, including a number of Access Software people that contributed to the project. Did TruGolf help to lead to this new opportunity? Chris Jones: Definitely. #TEX MURPHY UNDER A KILLING MOON PURCHASE UPGRADE#By the way, we're just finishing a huge upgrade in our golf software, if I could drop a little plug for the company. I've wanted to get back to working with Aaron for a long time now and the opportunity came up recently so we took it. We make software and simulators for golf, where people use their own clubs. Chris Jones: I left Microsoft in 2004 and came back to run TruGolf, which was an offshoot of the Links team. I'll have two credits: creative director (for the first half of the project) and story director (for the second half). The game I worked on (Shaun White Snowboarding) will be released for holidays this year. So what have you guys been up to since then, and how did you get to this point? Aaron Conners: I spent most of the past two years working as a creative director for Ubisoft in Montreal. IGN: Last I heard from Aaron was a bit before Amped 3's release, and I know Chris has kept a lower profile as far as game development goes since he left Microsoft Game Studios. The pair happily sat down to give us the skinny on their new film noir-tinged mystery, Three Cards to Midnight. Their first project doesn't much resemble the Tex Murphy games, but it still embodies the classic adventure spirit they were forced to leave behind for so long. Now, Chris and Aaron have founded Big Finish, Inc., a new studio dedicated to story-driven games. The bizarre and hilarious story turned some heads and garnered quite a bit of praise, but it would be the last game the company would produce before being closed down by their new owners, Take 2. Aaron finally got his chance to tell stories again when he was put in charge of the script for Amped 3. The duo struggled to find a creative outlet to tell stories, and in 2004, Chris parted ways with the company he once co-owned. ![]()
